Shopping

Tax-Free

In Norway VAT is included in the retail price. As a visitor to a foreign country you are entitled to a VAT/GST refund on the purchases you export from Norway. Approx. 300 shops in Bergen offer 11-18.5 % cash refund of VAT when your purchases in one store exceed a certain amount.
The only thing you have to do is to look for the Global Refund TAX FREE SHOPPING stickers in shop windows when shopping and then make your purchases there.
Simply ask for your TAX FREE cheque and show an ID/passport which proves that you are not a resident of Norway, Sweden, Denmark or Finland.
When leaving Norway, go to the Global Refund desk, show the sealed goods, your ID and the Global Refund Cheque and you will immediately receive your cash refund.

Currency

Local currency is called Norwegian crowns (NOK) and you can see its exchange rate towards the main currencies on the currency calculator of DnB. Fill in the top window with the currency you have, and then choose the currency you want to get in the bottom window. Then press "Beregn" to get the exchange rate.
The money can be exchanged either in Tourist Information Office or in a bank. All restaurants and most of the shops accept credit cards.
