Statsraad Lehmkuhl

‘Statsraad Lehmkuhl’ is Norway’s largest and oldest square-rigged sailing ship. It is also one of the world’s oldest sailing ships and one of the best preserved. Statsraad Lehmkuhl is a three-masted steel barque, built in 1914 in Bremerhaven, Germany by the Tecklenborg company as a training ship for the German merchant navy. In 1923, on the initiative of Kristofer Lehmkuhl who was then the director of Det Bergenske Dampskibsselskap (Bergen Line) and a former Cabinet Minister, the Norwegian Shipowners Association bought the ship. Later, the ship was renamed after him as ‘Statsraad Lehmkuhl’.
The sailing season begins usually around mid April and ceases mid September. Popular are the open mini-cruises in Bergen fjords. They start in the evening, take about five hours and include live music and a meal, you eat as much shrimps as you like. Drinks can be bought on board. Book tickets with good time ahead to be sure to get a place!

The ship can also be booked as a whole, for events such as company
's or school's cruises. On sailing cruises in international waters the "Statsraad Lehmkuhl" has a capacity of up to 150 in addition to the vessel's own crew. However, as the ship's schedule is very tight, this needs rather long-term planning. For more information please contact us.
