Aquarium

The Bergen Aquarium has one of the largest collections of fish and invertebrates from the North Atlantic ocean. Further, you can observe animals here, which come from areas with tropical and mild climate. In outside pools live seals and penguins, and they are fed in 12:00 and 15:00 every day. In the show room you can watch a movie about Bergen and the Western coast of Norway, shown on five screens and made by an Italian director Ivo Caprino.
Open daily 9:00-19:00 (in the main season).
 

The fish market

The Bergen Fish Market is the heart of the city. Here, you can see and try Norwegian fish, prawns, lobsters, crabs and whale's meat. On the fish market are also sold fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers and souvenirs. Open from 7:00 to 17:00, Saturdays to 16:00 (season).
 

The funicular Fløibanen

The funicular Fløibanen takes you up the mountain Fløyen 320 m above the sea level. Only 6-7 minutes of amazing way up and you will experience one of the best views on the city centre. The funicular station is situated close to the fish market. Open daily 7:30-24:00, Saturdays from 8:00, Sundays from 9:00 (season).
 

The cable car Ulriken

You can come up the highest mountain around Bergen (Ulriken, 642 m) by a cable car. The view from Ulriken is exceptional - you can see Bergen, the fjords, islets and the ocean. It was here, where the town's hymn has been written. A double-deck bus can take you to the cable car, which lies about 10 km from the city centre. The bus starts from a place opposite the Tourist Information Office every hour. The cable car is open daily 9:00-19:00.
 

The "Island of Light", Ole Bull's villa

The fabulous and extraordinary villa of the violin virtuoso lies on the island "Lysøyen" (Isle of Light), 30 km from the city centre. During the visit of the villa, you will be acquainted with the life of the Scandinavian Paganini. Open daily 12:00-16:00, Sundays 11:00-17:00.

Museums

Hanseatic Museum - can be found in one of the oldest wooden houses at Bryggen. The interior of the house is furnished in the style of the 1700s and gives an intimate picture of the life of a Hanseatic merchant. Open daily 9:00-17:00 (season).

Edvard Grieg Museum - apart from the villa Troldhaugen (the troll's hill), where the Grieg's family has lived more than 20 years, you can see here an exhibition of pictures from Grieg's life, a concert hall, composer's hut and place of burial. Situated 15-minutes-drive from the city centre. Open daily 9:00-18:00 (season).

The open-air museum Gamle Bergen - this "town in a city" consists of more than 40 wooden houses from the 18th and 19th century. The interiors are showing life in Bergen in that period. Here, you can find bakery, pharmacy, school, captain's house, dentist's house, officer's house and many others. Situated 5 minutes on a car from the city centre, the territory of the museum is open the whole year.

Fisheries Museum - it presents the history of fishing with used techniques and tools. Here, you will see models of boats, the last Viking, dried cod, kayak from 1890 and many more. The museum is located on the ferry terminal next to the Håkons Hall. Open Monday - Friday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. (season).

Leprosy museum - was open in the St.George's Hospital, which was more than 500 years curing the lepers. Norwegian doctors, and in particular Armauer Hansen, are well known for their struggle against the disease. Daily 11:00-15:00 (season).

Bergen Museum - there are two museums. The Natural History Collections cover Geology, Botany, paleo-Zoology. Cultural History Collections cover cultural background, art history, archaeology, anthropology. Open Tuesday - Saturday 10:00-17:00, Sundays 11:00-17:00 (season).

Bryggens Museum - the history of the wooden wharf, archaeological finds. Open daily 10:00-17:00 (season).

Bergen Maritime Museum - shows the history of shipping from the Viking time until today. Museum is situated in the middle of the campus of the University of Bergen, not far from the Johan's Church. Daily 11:00-15:00 (season).
